Moto G85: The Perfect Balance of Performance and Style

A new smartphone from Motorola enters the mid-range market and generates significant attention. Motorola released their Moto G85 phone under the G-series on July 16, 2024 to deliver premium functions at affordable pricing. My experience with the Motorola device during one week confirmed to me their ability to produce a smartphone that handles different tasks exceptionally well.

Sleek Design That Stands Out

When people first observe the Moto G85 they notice its elevated design language. Users experience a balance of grip and weight since this phone measures 7.59mm thin at 172-grams weight. The Moto G85 smartphone offers Olive Green and Cobalt Blue and Urban Grey color options to its users. The Olive Green device I have tested features vegan leather on its back portion that achieves a high-end look with superior grip functionality.

The P-OLED display with curved edges adds flagship-like elegance to the phone combined with efficient IP52 dust and water splash protection which enhances the low-end value proposition.

Display Excellence

The P-OLED curved display at 6.67 inches stands out as a dominant feature of the G85. The screen delivers FHD+ resolution at 1080×2400 pixels together with 395 ppi density for a defining picture quality. This device delivers a 120Hz refresh rate for fluid screen operation and peak brightness of 1600 nits enables crystal-clear outdoor viewing even in bright sunlight conditions.

The front camera spot within the punch-hole design allows Motorola to achieve a screen-to-body ratio of 93% which results in 90.8% according to calculations and creates a highly immersive display viewing experience. The device features Corning Gorilla Glass 5 which provides suitable defense against minor scratches as well as drops.

Performance That Delivers

The Moto G85 operates using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 processor that runs on a 6nm process. The phone operates using dual 2.3GHz Cortex A78 performance cores with six 2.0GHz Cortex A55 cores for efficiency operations alongside the Adreno 619 GPU.

The phone delivers smooth performance because users can choose from models equipped with 8GB LPDDR4X RAM paired with either 128GB storage or 12GB RAM adopted with 256GB storage. Users can benefit from good read/writing speeds due to UFS 2.2 storage and the phone supports expandable storage of up to 2TB using a hybrid SIM slot.

The G85 ships with Android 14 preinstalled and features the clean Hello UI interface which guarantees 2 years of OS upgrades and 4 years of security maintenance. Motorola maintains its original philosophy of delivering nearly unmodified Android versions to users through its product strategy.

Camera System: Impressive Daily Shooter

The camera setup on the Moto G85 consists of a dual rear camera system:

  • 50MP primary camera (f/1.8) with OIS, using a 1/1.95″ LYT 600 sensor
  • 8MP ultra-wide angle camera (f/1.67)

Different illumination situations do not affect the main sensor because it generates high-definition images and extended brightness ranges. The built-in optical stabilizing mechanism provides essential benefits to users doing night-time photography and creating videos. Users may find this camera system lacking in flexibility because it does not have macro or telephoto lens access yet its dual camera output surpasses expectations at this price level.

The front camera achieves detailed selfies through its 32MP sensor and the device allows Full HD video recording through both cameras at a 30fps frame rate. The camera application comes with useful capabilities including HDR production together with burst mode functions and a special macro mode operating through the ultra-wide camera.  .

Battery Life That Keeps Going

The 5000mAh battery makes it possible to maintain usage throughout an entire day despite using it at a moderate to heavy intensity. My testing returned between 6-7 hours of screen time which occurred when using the phone for social media viewing together with video streaming and momentary periods of gaming.

The 33W TurboPower charging provides acceptable speed yet does not rank among top performers since it needs seventy minutes to complete from zero. The device maintains sufficient speed for standard everyday needs and its outstanding battery operation keeps you from requiring an emergency charge.

Connectivity and Extra Features

Your device connects to 5G through multiple bands which secures your equipment usage until at least 2024. The connectivity features of this device include Wi-Fi 5 with MIMO support and Bluetooth 5.1 while GPS functionality is complete but NFC is missing as an option.

The G85 achievement in audio performance stems from stereo speakers backed by Dolby Atmos. The device does not have a 3.5mm headphone jack but its USB-C port enables audio output functions. The under-screen optical fingerprint reader operates reliably and it works together with face recognition features for simpler access.

Final Verdict: A Mid-Range Champion

A position of superior performance exists between Moto G85 and other options in the price segment. Users should purchase this model because it provides a curved OLED display along with a camera system including optical image stabilization and straightforward software and trustworthy battery performance.

G85 stands out through its complete package of features over other devices which only match a few of its core benefits at best. The G85 serves as a perfect choice for those seeking a smartphone under the premium range without sacrificing quality in design or performance.

Users who seek exceptional screen quality together with clean operating programs and steady performance will find the Moto G85 the best choice in the market. Throughout the mid-range segment Motorola has consistently proven their understanding of consumer needs which reaches peak expression with the G85 model.
